TRUTH: Genetics play a major role in common forms of pattern hair loss, but they’re only part of the picture. Hair shedding and thinning can also be influenced by age, hormones, nutrition, illness, medications, stress, inflammation, styling practices, and scalp conditions. Even when genetics are involved, early identification and appropriate treatment can often help slow progression, preserve existing hair, and in some cases improve density.PRO TIP: Don’t assume hair loss is inevitable—or treat every type of thinning the same way. Understanding why the hair is changing is the first step toward choosing the right approach.Book a consultation today!
TRUTH: A clean, balanced scalp supports healthy hair care, but thinning has many possible causes like nutrient deficiency, medicinal reactions, and genetics. Excess sebum and residue should be managed to provide the optimal environment for healthy hair and growth, but not all causes can be treated this way and persistent or progressive hair loss may require evaluation by a dermatologist or other qualified medical provider.
TRUTH: Everyone's hair sheds and shampooing usually releases hairs that were already ready to shed. Wash based on your scalp’s needs—not fear of seeing hair in the drain. This depends entirely on the person and their scalp and hair, everyone is different! If you are someone that is consistently struggling with an oily scalp and/or lots of buildup, then keeping the scalp clean is a priority. Excessive oil and buildup can and will contribute to follicle death and hair thinning/loss, but aggressive cleansing when not necessary can also contribute to stripping the scalp barrier and damage and breakage to the hair shaft. Here are the ideal steps: Gently towel dry your hair. Do not rub aggressively.Allow to air dry 50-70%Apply a quality detangler and heat protectant, but avoid the scalp area and do not overuse. Wait until dry to brush through, or use a a gentle detangling brush or wide tooth comb.Gently blow dry on low to medium heat from about 6 inches away. Keep the air moving, do not repeatedly blast one area.Avoid additional heat styling when possible.
TRUTH: Flaking can come from dryness, but it can also occur with excess oil, dandruff, irritation, or seborrheic dermatitis. Treating every flaky scalp with more oil can sometimes make things worse. Book a consultation here to find the best approach for your situation!

We always recommend, especially for those struggling with oily scalps, dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis:Routinely washing pillow cases, hats, and any other surfaces that commonly contact your hair and scalp. Use an antibacterial spray for things like helmets that can't be washed. Keeping buildup and bacteria at bay is crucial for scalp health. A silk or satin pillow case and/or bonnet for those struggling with fragile hair, breakage, and thinning can help protect hair while you sleep. Your scalp is skin, just like the rest of your body, excessive exposure to the sun and harmful UV rays can cause sunburn and damage your scalp and its follicles. Protect your scalp.
